According to the BBC Tom Cruise is set to appear on Jonathan Ross’s comeback of “Friday Night with Jonathan Ross” Personally I think Ross should have been sacked or like Russel Brand had the guts to quit.. he is after all the more mature of the two.
A bit of edgy comedy is all fair and well and I know a lot of people don’t see the harm in what they did. But let’s put it this way: had it been your own grandfather would you still think it harmless fun? Mine would have been mortified and upset

My brother lent me some Jeff Dunham dvd’s to watch over Christmas. I’ve always liked ventriloquist acts and am a fan of puppets and anamatronics in film and theatre, so I was looking forward to sitting down and watching the shows.
Sadly I was a more than a little dissapointed. Dunham’s puppets are generally well made and he’s an excellent ventriloquist… It’s just a shame the act isn’t so good. As a Brit some of the material is just plain lost to me… What is not lost however is a slightly ugly right wing tone. It’s never heavily stated and Dunham himself often plays the flabbergasted innocent as his creations push the boundaries, immigration, race and religion are all targets. The whole thing left me feeling a bit cold. Ironically his most famous creation – Ahmed the dead terrorist I found to be the least offensive, and at times the funniest and most original character.
Right wing comedy rarely gets broadcast in the UK so in an odd way it’s all a shock to the system – though it’s great to see puppets brought to the masses I can’t help but baulk at the content.

I was reading an article on seenit today (it’s fast becoming my favourite entertainment news site) when I read that there is a possible merger on the table between Five and Four!
Five has been a damp squib ever since it launched but Four at least has some (if on the slide) credibility .
Seenit say :
Most commentators think this is an unlikely deal and some claim the authorities would block it on the grounds of reduced competition.
To be honest I think some reduced competition might be a good thing, we have far to many channels spreading what little quality entertainment far too thinly… take the multitude of BBC Channels… why do we need BBC Four? It seems to me anything of value on BBC Four used to get broadcast on BBC2 and the same could be said for Three… too little quality too many channels.
Meanwhile the article that informed me of this possible merger is well worth a read; it seems Five are digging deeper into a pit of moral dubiousness

Seenit writer Martin Hoscik post an interesting article questioning the future dominance of the iPod in the wake of thew that itunes are ditching DRM.
He points out that apple are not good when it comes to open markets (iPhone anyone?)
He makes some great points but i can’t see people ditching iPods for some piece of plastic made by sony… quality that counts and iPods are the fashion accessory of the naughties.

It’s great that there are so many Playstation 1 titles to download from the Playstation 3 store… it’s just not so great that some of them are a little iffy.
A trip down memory lane reminded me of Return Fire, a game originally produced for the ill fated 3DO Interactive Multiplayer but later ported to PC and the Playstation 1.
The game is an vehicle based shooter presented in isometric view and it was a blast! Your mission was to steal an enemy flag hidden in increasingly well defended enemy bases. I can honestly say that despite it’s age and simplicity the gameplay was and is terrific. Now why can’t they put it up for sale on the Playstation Network?

Seenit have news of some new Sony walkman products… What happened to the Sony Walkman… just how did they lose their position as the default walkman? I remember back in the early naughties (00’s) that the minidisk was king… I even recall one Sony Minidisk owning friend poking fun at me for owning an iPod. Can you believe it? Her argument was that the Minidisk was more flexible (????)

…. are on the loose again. Why? Wellit would appear we have a new Doctor, who? Why a young actor called Matt Smith… and it’s the “Young” bit that has got the frothing mouthed fanboys in a tizzy. He’s too young”, they say,”too ugly”.
Basically he’s not Tom Baker prancing around in a scarf or whatever it is these loony tunes want from their Doctor.
When you read things like “’ve been a Who fan since I was 6, I’ve seen every surviving episode, but it’s dead to me when Tennant leaves.”
You have to wonder why these people are allowed to own TV sets

ITV have been trailing Demons for some time now, so I expected we’d be in for something of a treat. Afterall why would you trail a show you knew to be a lame duck?
Twenty minutes into Demons and it’s flaws were sticking out like a sore thumb. Glennister’s perplexingly bad US Accent is a show stealer (or should that be killer) it’s a mystery how it got onto the screen – surely someone could have spoken to him about it? The CGI is not in itself bad, more it’s the way it’s handled… no suspense, no shadows… this isn’t Alien… nothing left to the imagination! The story in itself is not bad… but it all feels a bit old and if you have ever seen Buffy then you have seen this, so what’s the point?
I suspect this may be a hit with younger audiences but it will soon lose the interest of their parents…

So it’s a new year and i’ve decided to launch a blog… just my rambling thoughts on stuff!
